“THE
SHIPPON”
The Shippon is a brand new open
plan barn conversion based on the ancient hill farm of Chittleford.
It has stunning original wooden beams and polished wooden
floors, most of the furniture is antique. All windows have
secondary glazing.
The front door leads from a quiet
lane into the living area. Comfortable older style easy chairs
face the wood burner and television. The modern kitchen which
is light and airy is an extension to the side of the barn
and fitments include a washer/dryer, fridge, freezer, full
size LPG cooker and microwave.
A sturdy oak wooden staircase
leads up from the living area to the large double/twin bedroom
with en-suite bathroom. The bathroom is spacious with bath
and overhead shower.
Storage heaters supplement the
wood burner downstairs and upstairs. |
There is space for parking
at one end of the barn and although there is no private garden guests
are welcome to walk certain areas of the 150 acre working farm or
of course the 365 acres of Dartmoor on their doorstep. The local
pub the Rugglestone Inn is within walking distance and is well worth
a visit or two. Up to two well behaved dogs are welcome, both in
the barn and the pub! .
Widecombe in-the Moor is under 1 mile
from The Shippon and is renowned for it famous church known as “The
Cathedral of the Moor” services are held regularly. We have
a post office & general stores. Fresh home grown vegetables
and eggs are normally available at Manor Cottage next to the Post
Office. Widecombe also sports gift shops, tea rooms and two pubs.
Every last Saturday of the month is Widecombe Farmers Market where
a good selection of local produce is available. Ullacombe Farm Shop
is conveniently situated just outside Bovey Tracey and en route
to Widecombe. Tor to Tor just over a mile and a half away produces
delicious sausages and pork (also Beef and lamb if we do not have
any available!).
The nearest town is approximately 6
miles away where there is a range of eating places, pubs and take
a ways. Torquay Plymouth (both on the coast) and Exeter are all
within an easy drive.
The second Tuesday in September is
the famous Widecombe Fair people come from all over the world to
attend this old festival
We have excellent stabled livery should
you wish to bring your own horse to ride over Dartmoor. Guides are
available
There is no mobile phone reception in
Widecombe Valley and no phone in the barn. So you can really switch
off and relax. Of course a phone is available in an emergency. |
